The Boy in the Boat

Presented online due to the pandemic. The event consisted of original songs featuring singers from around the country, discussions of the project and the flood, designs, and a Q&A with the creative team.

Featuring a unique format somewhere between World Premiere and your own personal backers' audition.

Book, music, and lyrics are by me (Richard Ford) a Meyerland/Houston-resident with additional material by my favorite collaborator and friend, Mark Wilder. (As a side note, he lives in Seattle...) We've been writing together for a long-time and really enjoyed sharing this with everyone that turned out (tuned in?)

Richard is a songwriter, author, and teacher. As the founder of Songability, he's bringing new songwriters and songs into the world. Over the years, he's discovered that he can unlock the natural songwriter in people just like you. No matter where you are right now, you can be writing songs you love in no time flat. Imagine that!

In his own songwriting, Richard writes musicals and composes symphonies. He's won ASCAP Awards and taught hundred of students to make their own songs, films, theater, and even puppet operas. His musicals include Rockstar Widow (with Paulette Kranjac), Bolts of Melody, Waiting for the Sunrise, The Prisoner, A Lovely Leave, (with Mark Wilder) With Eyes Open, The Infinite Monkey Theorem, and Venture Capital,
That Him (with Richard Mayora), and Boy in the Boat.

He holds a BM and MFA in Music Composition. Richard lives with his family in Houston, Texas.
